Welcome to my current blog. I am a hybrid artist and designer, working across painting, drawing, digital and photo media, as well as graphic design for print and web. I also specialise in stage set and props - design and construction, and any form of 3D sculptural construction.

Graphic Design

Graphic Design

This is a small selection of the most recent graphic design projects. I am multi-skilled across all digital and hand-drawn media and am able to format artwork for both web and print. A particular speciality of mine is my ability to produce high quality, hand drawn and painted illustration and high quality original vector drawing (see "Wind in the Willows", "Les Miserables" and "Leader of the Pack" posters)

I specialise in creating and preparing artwork for;

  • Hand drawn illustration
  • Web design
  • Promotional material for Posters, CD, DVD, T-shirt
  • Logo design

RECENT PROJECTS

e-Learning banners

Over the past few years educational institutions have been rolling all their teaching resources over into e-learning platforms. These banners / page headers were designed for High School. The aim is to ensure consistency in the basic elements across all pages and on-line learning resources. Student art works are often used in individual banners on a rotating basis.

VADEA - Visual Arts and Design Educators Association

Designing a logo for the professional association of Visual Arts and Design teachers presents its challenges, particularly when most of the members could do the job themselves. Fellow teacher Karen Profilio had input on this design over coffee at the Art Gallery of NSW before going into a meeting of the Teachers Advisor Board - "Critical Friends" of which we were both members at the time.

Kirrawee High School events promotion - posters, t-shirt and ticketing

The brief with all this work is to work to an almost non-existent budget and give student's artworks and talents maximum exposure in the local community.

The drawing featured in the above poster was by a student of mine who's work was featured in Artexpress exhibition. The key design issue with exhibition posters is to let the artwork stand unhindered. The surrounding text and information should not overpower the artwork, particularly when it's this good. The text should be bold and minimal in style.

Poster
The "Les Miserables" poster required a complete vector re-draw in Adobe Illustrator as all availble artwork was not of a high enough resolution and quality to be printed in large, outdoor poster format.

Illustration for "Wind in the Willows" Theatre Production at Castlecrag Theatre

I specialise in hand drawn and painted original illustration. For this job, the client needed to capture the children's pantomime aspect of the production. As all existing artwork was copyrighted, I created an original illustration to be used for all promotion.

Showreel promotional DVD cover for cinematographer Paul Kolsky

Paul Kolsky is a very talented cinematographer from Sydney. Because his work is so diverse, and the contents of his showreel would constantly be updated and change, we went for something completely neutral. Paul agreed to use photographs of one of my paintings as the main artwork across the inside and outside cover which were then distorted and layered to create an image evocative of heat and fire.

DVD cover and promotional poster for short film project

"Running With The Boys".

"Running With the Boys" was a short film written and produced by Annie Cossins and a small group of collaborators. I used captured stills from the film to build the DVD cover, posters and all promotional material.
